How are classes conducted? Do I need special equipment?

All classes are conducted over Zoom. Ideally students will have a desktop, computer, laptop or tablet with a camera or webcam to join the meetings. Additionally you will need a phone capable of taking photos and sending them via email or text. Classes can be conducted just using a smartphone but visibility to live instruction can be limited due to the smaller screen size of the phone. It is not necessary to download the Zoom app to attend classes.

What supplies do I need?

Your choice of a blank or painted canvas, thread of your choice suitable for needlepoint and the mesh size of your canvas, scissors and tapestry needles. Stretcher bars are optional but highly recommended when doing decorative stitches. Good lighting is always a plus as well as a comfortable place to stitch.

I am an absolute beginner - can you help me get supplies?

We don’t stock any supplies but will happily suggest online sources or local needlepoint shops in your area. If you want help picking a canvas, we will set up a free short Zoom session to assist you.

How long are the classes?

All classes are 60 minutes. However if you are brand new to needlepoint the first class will be 90 minutes.

How are Single Thread Studio classes different from other online classes?

The classes offered are one-on-one sessions personalized and tailored just for you. With today’s technology, we have the ability to make you feel that we are stitching right beside you. We also strive to give you feedback during the class so that you can confidently stitch after your session.

Is needlepoint expensive?

Like for any hobby, supplies can range in price and quality. However we can help guide your choices to fit your budget.

What is needlepoint?

Needlepoint, also known as canvas embroidery, is the art of placing thread on a ground fabric of woven canvas. The basic stitch is the tent stitch which is placed over a single intersection of the canvas weave however many embroidery techniques are used to create this art. Canvases can be blank, printed with a design or hand-painted with a design. The threads used can be single or multiplied, twisted or flat and made from a wide variety of materials include wool, silk, cotton, linen and synthetic fibers.

I want to take a class - what is my next step?

Fill out the Class Sign Up and we will get back with you to schedule a day and time as well as any questions we may have about your project. We can also set up a quick Zoom meeting to chat if you prefer.

Are there group classes?

Not at this time but let us know if this is something you are interested in.

Are there discounts if I sign up for multiple classes?

I can only do classes on a specific day or in the evening; can I still take a class?

Here at Single Thread Studio, we strive to bring classes to you to fit your needs so we are flexible about class scheduling.
